A family weekend

Ask Eryn what day it is and her answer is always “Fiday, it’s movie day” We have started a little traditional in our family whereby Friday nights, after bath and supper, we make a big christmas bed and watch a movie together.

Last Friday night was the first night that Camryn joined in, normally he is fast asleep by 07:30pm but he has taken to suprising us with some really long afternoon naps and Friday afternoon’s lasted 3 hours. As a result, he was still as the saying goes, bright eyed and bushy tailed after his bath and so he too was able to watch Rio with us (well about half of it at least)

Fandamily time watching Rio

Saturday morning took us out to Spier wine estate (thanks Aunt Petro for the recommendation). We spent our morning viewing the Cheetahs and Birds in the various rehabilitation camps, and then headed off through the most amazing rolling lawns to have a meal at the restaurant there. Peter, Eryn and myself enjoyed a delicious meal, while camryn swung on the swing… As the saying goes, he has a bird’s appetite! Well in this instance the birds actually ate more than him as they kept stealing the food off his plate.

Eryn asked "How do we go inside, mommy?"

We greeted the owls (gaggi's favourite bird)

Then we took a walk to the restaurant

And of course I couldn’t resist using the spectacular views as backgrounds for a few family photos:

And we ended off our weekend with a picnic on the dunes and a bit of 4x4ing in the soft sand (Peter replaced the bakkie’s tyres – need I say more…)

And the new trick Camryn has learnt when his mom and dad won’t listen to his plea’s to take his jacket off:

He gets his sister to do it for him!

And she is ever so proud of how she has helped

A picnic at Small Bay

Last night we lay in bed (now now, stop worrying this is a family blog, he he) and Peter asked the question “so what are we going to day tomorrow?” Yes, can you believe it, my hubby who lives from moment to moment actually suggested planning an event almost 12 hours in advance! Woohoo

Because of the amazing weather we are experiencing in Cape Town we decided to make the most of it and have a picnic at Small Bay. A little bay at the beach down the road from us with a great park next to it.

And so what felt like forever, (getting two excited toddlers ready, dressed and fed is not a 10min job) we were on our way – on our bicycles. Although Peter had a few creative excuses as to why we should take the car, I subtly passed his shoes to him and asked him to trust me. After a  little ride to the pick’npay to pick up some fresh rolls and ham, we made our way to the park. Peter, of course, thought the ride was a great idea! (men will be men). By the shrills from Cammy and Eryn singing all the way, I guess they enjoyed the ride too!

And so we spent the morning playing in the park, playing with the ball, playing in the sand, playing in the waves (well more like ripples) and yes, generally just playing –

And of course a visit to the beach just wouldn’t be complete without getting wet!

good fun in the water

My little boy has decided the ocean is not so bad!

And after all this fun, we cycled home for a nice looonnnggg afternoon nap! Aaahhh….
