A visit from gaga

In the month of May 2012, we had to break some sad news to Eryn. My mom (Eryn’s very special Gagi) came to visit before she went off to the UK to visit her sisters and family and get herself a job there. We had been thinking of the ways to tell Eryn for a while and somehow the opportunity and the right moment just never arrived. Eryn is especially close to her granny as she spent a lot of time with her when her young brother arrived. It might also have something to do with the fact that Eryn and her Gagi play makeup makeup, pamper pamper and pretty much anything else Eryn comes up with. So to break the news to Eryn that her Gagi would be leaving to a far away land after visiting us and that we wouldn’t be able to count down the sleeps until we see her again was rather a daunting task.

But God works in amazing ways and the morning of my mom’s arrival, I was sitting in the study having my quiet time before the children arose and He presented me with the perfect opportunity to chat to Eryn. Very unusual for Eryn but that morning she woke up before Camryn, and came and cuddled on my lap. I was then able to explain to her that her Gagi is going to visit her sisters in England and showed her photos on facebook of my aunts in England. Then I showed her the world map and together we found Cape Town and Jhb and England and we were able to compare the difference in distance between Cpt and Jhb and between Cpt and England. I could then explain that because Cpt is so far away from England her granny will be going away for a longer time and that we wont see her for a while. I waited for the expected impact this discussion would have, I was expecting sobbing and tears and heartbreak but what I got back from Eryn showed me that I had waited on Him to show me the right time and that God had giving us this special time. Eryn fully understood what I had just explained to her and although she was sad about it she said she was ok about it and she would just enjoy her Gagi’s visit!!! Boy was I relieved.

And so we were all in high spirits as we collected one very special granny from the airport…

In the first week, we had a nice holiday in Montagu. We spent our time on a farm and swimming in the hot pools in Montagu. Below are some photos captured on that holiday

Another trip to the goats

Gagi even got good at feeding the farm animals

One morning we booked a tractor ride on the Montagu Dried Fruit Farm, a nice SLOW ride up to the top of the ‘koppie’

Here I managed to capture the size of the tractor in comparison to little Cammy

And back home we had some good times too:

We spent a bit of time rock climbing

And some time dipping our feet into rock pools

And another day we dragged Gagi to the beach in the freezing cold too!

Eryn played soccer with her 'boeta'

And in between all of this we moved house. A big thanks to my Mom for looking after Eryn and Camryn while I packed and packed and unpacked and unpacked. She read stories, she prepared food, she played horseys, cars, took walks and much more. Thanks Mom for the helping hand.

Thanks Mom for all the reading to the children

A visit from my big brother

In July 2011, my big brother and his family came to visit us. With him, he brought the most wonderful weather. For one whole week in winter, we had radiant blue skies, no wind or rain, and soaring temperatures of up to 27 degrees.

We were able to share some awesome memories with Kevin, Roz and Jay. In particular I cherish the special times that our two toddlers Eryn and Camryn shared with them. There were many romping sessions where Eryn and Camryn climbed all over Kevin, Roz got to be the patient a few times while Eryn played “doctor, doctor” on her, and Jay was just a big play mate for Eryn, from reading stories to running in the waves with her.

Good food was shared

Stunning sunsets shared

Jason is like a big brother to Eryn. He is amazingly patient and caring towards Eryn. He just goes along wherever Eryn drags him and plays along to whatever game she has decided is the game of the minute!

Something of interest down there

So no, we didn’t lock our guests in our house and subject them to our toddlers the whole week. We did some of the tourist site including Table Mountain (where we were almost blown away)

Amazing how at the foot of table mountain there was no wind. We thought we had picked the perfect day for a trip to the top of table mountain. Alas, when we arrived at the top and stepped out of the building, wow – we were almost blown away…by the wind and the view of course.

To the right, you will notice in true Cammy style that he decided not to view CPT with the binoculars but in fact to turn them around and try view himself!

And of course with such brilliant weather, we spent some good times at the beach.

What fun!

Thanks Kev, Roz and Jay for a special time!
